Tabletop Trends: NY Tabletop Show Fall 2024

Shelby here! Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending the fall session of the New York Tabletop Show! Although many brands debut new collections in the spring, there was plenty of newness and inspiration to be found in the displays and conversations I had with a number of luxury tabletop companies.

Black & White

The post-pandemic explosion of color in fashion and events has been about celebrating joy, but who said that muted tones can’t join the party? A number of collections and designs I saw proved that simple hues of black and white are far from boring!

Vista Alegre’s Calçada Portuguesa collection. Inspired by the decorative tiles and cobblestone pavements found on the streets of Lisbon, Portugal.

And, while we appreciate the elegant simplicity of a white plate, we are inspired by designs that maintain their simplicity while demonstrating that texture can still be included.

Those of you who long for color, don’t you worry, because there is still plenty of inspiration to be found! We continue to see a trend in decorative plating which has encouraged a resurgence of mixed match designs.

The Meaning collection, a partnership between Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro. Inspired by the whimsy of and wonder within a secret garden.

The Jungle Animalier collection from Versace by Rosenthal.

Ceramic “Placemats”

In the constant creative atmosphere of tabletop design, we continue to see a focus on thoughtful layers. While chargers are a typical foundation of a design, we are seeing more and more interest in a placemat beneath the charger for additional color and texture between the table and the setting itself. Enter: the square charger placemat. A simple but dynamic addition to the tabletop setting that creates depth and interest while adding to the overall design.
